A peronal development budget...

The chance to take part in an innovative and exciting approach to capacity building. By offering personal budgets to organisations we are allowing you to completely design a capacity building training package that fully takes into account the individual needs of your organisation and the organisations which you support.

The application is available here or read on for more information.

Overview

Working with Capacitybuilders and the Department of Health, ACEVO is giving CEOs of infrastructure organisations a £2,000+ personal development budget to develop their ability to support third sector organisations working in the fields of health and social care.

What we are trying to do

We are offering personal development budgets to CEOs of third sector infrastructure organisations to enable them to help the third sector organisations they support to win business in the fields of health and social care - either by winning commissioned contracts or through attracting personal health and social care budget holders as part of the personalisation of health and social care

We envisage third sector infrastructure CEOs using their personal development budgets to meet this goal by:
•	Developing a clearer understanding and increased knowledge of the health and social care environments and how they are changing (e.g. the personalisation agenda)
•	Developing stronger relationships with key players in health and social care (e.g. leaders in the NHS, GP consortia and local government), and changing their behaviours and ways in which they interact with those players

How you can benefit

This year, we will be piloting this approach with 10 infrastructure organisation CEOs. We are inviting applications from infrastructure organisation CEOs, in the form of outline plans for how they would spend their budget (which will consist of at least £2,000). Those who are successful will then spend their budget on the contents of their plan and bill ACEVO as they spend that money. There will be minimal evaluation and bureaucracy: there will be an initial and follow up workshop in which plans can be refined and learning from this process can be shared.

Applying for your personal development budget

Applications will consist of a few details about your organisation, followed by some questions as how you would meet the goals mentioned above and a plan of how you would spend your personal development budget of £2,000 plus a top up from your own organisation.

These applications will be judged by the ACEVO staff responsible for administering ACEVO’s Capacitybuilders and Department of Health funding.
We will be looking for plans that demonstrate the following:
1.	Clear thought as how the CEO will develop a better understanding of the health and social care environments and stronger relationships with key players in order to support third sector providers win business in the aforementioned fields
2.	Real commitment to your development. We will be looking for you to top-up your £2,000 budget. Minimum top-ups (set out in the attached application form) will depend on the size of your organisation, and start at £400. Beyond the set out minimum levels of contribution the more you are prepared to contribute, the more likely we are to make our £2,000 contribution
3.	Sustainable impact. We will be looking for plans which aim to develop your understanding or networks in the health and social acre arena in a sustainable way.

Your plan does not need to involve spending right up to your maximum budget, nor does it need to be Costed down to the last penny. What we are looking for is an outline of what you would spend the money on and with whom. If you are successful in being awarded the budget, over the course of the year we will be open to discussing with you changes to what you spend it on or your choice of providers.

The application can be downloaded here and the deadline is the 10th of August.

Completed forms should be emailed to daniel.hooper@Acevo.org.uk

Designed and Made call for artists, makers and designers from the North East

to submit proposals for multiple objects that can be in included in their mobile exhibition and project; Love Me, Live With Me.

The project will be at London Design Week, Design Event and possible further afield in early 2011. The exhibition will be housed in contemporary showcasing on the back on an antique market barrow that moves around .

The concept is that we will distribute the objects to the general public and that they will live with them for a week before submitting their thoughts to a blog and handing the object on. These objects will pass around the country creating a map of their route and relationships with their temporary owners as they travel. We will collect them back at a given point and subject to funding create an exhibition/publication of the used objects and the comments they collected along the way.

This is not a precious project, it is an experiment; an opportunity to interact with our audience and to ask questions via objects.

We are looking for artists, makers and designers to submit proposals for objects that will change peoples lives in some small way for the week that they live with them in multiples between 10-1000.

These objects/proposals will be selected on the questions that they ask and the thoughts that they might provoke. We hope to receive proposals for objects that might change the temporary owners world in some small way for the week that they are in possession of them, an alarm clock that wakes us with poetry, rose tinted spectacles, linked wine goblets for two ….over to you. The more diverse and dynamic our selection of objects is the greater the project will be. We would like a mixture of functional and non functional objects.

Designed and Made will pay artists fees and fabrication/material costs.

For a full brief please e-mail us on info@designedandmade.co.uk or call 07977 201596 for an informal chat

Throughout the Summer Teesside University’s School of Arts & Media is offering a series of highly subsidised workshops and courses to those working in the region’s creative industries.

Learn how the voice works and how to apply these techniques to your professional practices:
Understanding Vocal Technique is a one day workshop which explores how the human voice works and how an understanding of these principles can be applied to vocal performance and teaching. Singing teacher, performer and workshop leader Rebecca Pedlow will demonstrate the different capabilities of the voice, exploring such subjects as it’s physiology, different voices and what happens when a voice breaks. These theories will be applied through a series of practical sessions throughout the day.

Rebecca will focus on essential breathing and posture exercises and demonstrate how vocal warm ups relate to vocal technique. Variances in different styles of singing will be investigated as she demonstrates the different approaches to the likes of folk, pop, opera and musical theatre.

Find out about further training opportunities and how you can earn money from your skills:
The workshop will culminate in a careers and personal development session where delegates will be signposted to further training and potential job opportunities. Understanding Vocal Technique delegates will leave with an awareness of the skills they need to develop to become a better performer or teacher. The workshop is ideal for performers, singing teachers, instrumentalists, community musicians, school teachers/assistants or anyone wishing to be introduced to, or have more understanding of how the voice works.

DCMS announces a number of our public bodies are set to be merged, abolished or streamlined

This is part of the Government’s drive to cut costs and increase transparency, accountability and efficienc

Proposals

Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary, has proposed a number of changes, including:

    * abolishing the UK Film Council and establishing a direct and less bureaucratic relationship with the British Film Institute; this would support front-line services while ensuring greater value for money - Government and Lottery support for film will continue
* abolishing the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council to focus efforts on front-line, essential services and ensure greater value for money - Government support for museums, libraries and archives will continue
* merging UK Sport and Sport England, creating a more effective structure to deliver elite sport success and a wider sports legacy from the 2012 games

Some key functions carried out by these bodies would be transferred to other, existing organisations.

We will do further work over the summer to finalise the details and timing of these changes. We will also continue to look at its other arm’s length bodies and explore further opportunities to improve accountability and efficiency.
