Short Cuts Millions Reminder

July 27, 2010 10:06

As you may know we’re doing something a little different for the next Short Cuts. We’ll be showing some of Craig Taylor’s One Million Tiny Plays about Britain (originally printed in The Guardian and recently staged in Glasgow to critical acclaim) and asking some of our group of emerging writers to write their own Tiny Plays in response as well as reading the best of your entries.

So, taking inspiration from these pieces of micro theatre, the theme is MILLIONS

Remember, you can interpret the theme in any way you choose – the less obvious and the more tangential the better!

How to submit your script:

Scripts can be emailed to degna@live.org.uk All Short Cuts scripts are considered anonymously so please make sure that your name does not appear anywhere on the script itself. Plays should be around 10 minutes long. Unfortunately, we can’t accept excerpts from longer plays. It’s worth bearing in mind that the cast will be made up of two actors and two actresses.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 16 August.

Please include the following in the body of your email:

• your name
• the title of your script
• a twenty five word tagline or synopsis
• character list
• a contact telephone number

There are only four spots up for grabs so to ensure that your play has the best chance of being selected remember to consider the characters’ journeys, the dramatic arc of the play and keep in mind the story – what do you want to write about, what are you trying to say, how are you going to say it?

We’re looking for ten-minute plays not sketches or skits or extracts from longer plays. Be ambitious and bold. Show us something we haven’t seen before.

Good luck!
