Enchanted Parks 2010 - A Call for Expression of Interest for Artists Commissions

The award-winning Enchanted Parks returns this winter to Gateshead’s Saltwell Park from Wednesday 8th – Sunday 12th December 2010.
Once again transforming the park after dark with innovative and atmospheric creations using visual art installations, light, sound and performance on a large and small scale, Enchanted Parks is an opportunity for artists to work in this unique setting to create a truly memorable experience for audiences of over 10,000 people*.
The theme for 2010 “A Gateshead Winter’s tale” is detailed below. Please note this is just for your information – we do not want you to submit proposals at this stage.
Draw the curtains to hide the snow and sleet, gather around the fire (or radiator), dim the lights, turn off the TV and listen…are you sitting comfortably? Well then, I’ll begin….
Winter with all its long, dark cosy nights, visiting family and friends, journeys, excitements, Christmas and new beginnings is a season made for stories and for remembering.
Exploring stories in all their guises from the tall tales told by friends, memories shared by family and those traditional fairytales from our childhoods, Saltwell Park will be transformed into a storybook of winter warmth, surprise and enchantment for all the family.
Mood words
Bed-time stories. Storytelling. Night Before Christmas. Memories. Local history. Stories as ways of remembering. Cold evenings by the fire. Capturing imagination. Words coming to life. Brothers Grimm / Hans Christian Anderson. Northern Lights. Mid-winter tales. Winter journeys.
We are looking for initial expressions of interest from artists and creative people.
Please send us a C.V. resume about yourself and your work on no more than two A4 pages in ideally a pdf document format, plus 4-10 images which are no more than 1.5 megabytes each in size, plus any links to relevant websites.
The deadline for expressions of interest by email is 5.00 pm on Tuesday 29th June 2010.

It is our intention to send out the full commissions brief for Enchanted Parks once this deadline has past for submissions by Friday 3rd September.
We have also arranged an opportunity for site visits to Saltwell Park on the afternoons and evenings of Tuesday 13th & Wednesday 14th July (this is not compulsory to attend, but will be an opportunity to explore the park and potential sites for the location of work). Enchanted Parks will be able to contribute towards travel costs.
