We were absolutely thrilled to see the show sell out yet again at most of the venues it performed at across the country, which included a two week run at the Unicorn Theatre, London. To accompany the show, we ran a drawing competition and asked children to create a brand new pirate character with the first prize of an original Night Pirates illustration, kindly donated by illustrator Deborah Allwright <http://www.deborahallwright.com> . There are also two runners up prizes of a selection of children s books, including a signed copy of The Night Pirates, which have been kindly donated by Egmont Publishing <http://www.egmont.co.uk> . We asked Deborah to judge the competition. She has spent the last couple of months marooned on an island without pirate broadband trying to decide which new pirate character should be the winner.  The pirate portraits are fantastic. If they were all on the same ship they would be a formidable and challenging crew. It was a mighty task to pick the winner! said Deborah. In March, we will be piloting our brand new show, Angel by Kevin Dyer, a fantastic piece of new writing for audiences aged 10 years and above, in partnership with Age UK. Angel is the story of an unexpected friendship between a young girl and an old woman with Alzheimer s and their journey through time, as the girl forgets about the troubles in her own life to help the woman right the wrongs of the past. We can t wait until June, when we will be touring our deliciously dark operetta for children aged 8 years and above, My Mother Told My Not to Stare. This is a very special project for Theatre Hullabaloo and we are thrilled to have secured support from Arts Council England through Grants for the Arts to redevelop this extraordinary piece of work.  It pushed everything to the edge of my brain. It was the best thing I ve seen in my whole life Luke, age 9. In November, we will be launching our bigger and better Takeoff Festival 2012. The festival will be a week-long event which will take place at venues across Co. Durham, with a three day sector conference for those working in or with an interest in theatre for children and young people in Durham City. The work has already started to make this the best Takeoff Festival ever, which will not only bring together the best theatre available for children and young people, but will also make that theatre available to thousands of children, their teachers, families and friends across the north east. Finally, we will be producing a brand new Christmas show with The Point, Eastleigh. The Elves and the Shoemaker is a wondrous version of the original Grimm fairytale, a perfect Christmas treat for children aged three years and above. Bring on 2012!
