New Music Award Judges

With less than two months to go to the deadline of Friday 8 January, we are pleased to announce the 6 judges for the New Music Award 2010. Chaired by Charlotte Higgins, who described the Award as a “rallying cry for contemporary music”, they will be responsible for choosing the boldest and most exciting new musical idea for the award’s £50,000 prize in September 2010.

More funding deadlines next year!

PRSF is increasing the number of deadlines for its core funding schemes. From 2010 there will be four deadlines per year for the Awards to Performances Groups, Festivals, Promoters, Organisations and New Works schemes; an increase on the one or two deadlines previously available per scheme.

British Music Abroad deadline update: If you've been invited to play at SXSW, CMW, MIDEM or Folk Alliance, the deadline for applying for funding is 4 December.

£25,000 to help amateur groups Adopt a Composer

Following eight highly successful years, the Adopt a Composer scheme is to continue in 2009-2010, thanks to £25,000 from the PRS Foundation. The scheme, run by Sound and Music and Making Music, enables voluntary music groups to have a new piece of music especially composed for them by some of the UK's most talented emerging composers. BBC Radio 3 has also committed to recording performances of all the resulting work from this year's scheme.

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival
hcmf once again brings an exciting programme of premieres and celebrations of contemporary and experimental music from Europe and the UK. On 22 November there's a chance to see David Sawer's Rumpelstiltskin performed by BCMG on its world premiere tour, whilst Monday 23 November is a whole day of free music, rounded off by Shifting Currents, a new work by Bill Thompson. Both of these events, along with hcmf's programme of other British work, are supported by the PRS Foundation.

BAC - Junior Producer vacancy
BAC's mission is to invent the future of theatre. One of the ways that it does that is by developing the talents of visionary producers to enable them to get the best out of extraordinary artists. BAC is now looking for at least one Junior Producer, perhaps more, to join its team for a fixed term of 12 months. You will be learning on the job and gaining experience from making things happen. You will be encouraged to show leadership and to take responsibility from the start. You will be supported through this by the rest of the producing team. This seminar will offer a basic guide to the law, covering the steps any creative professional should take in order to stop somebody else stealing or otherwise using your work without your permission (including copyright, patents, trade marks, licensing and design rights).
