Winner - Loo of the year
award
Northern
Print is celebrating after its specially designed WC picked up
a top prize at the recent National Loo of the Year Awards.
Created
by Cumbrian artist Paul Scott, with the support of
Newcastle-based architects Mosedale Gillatt, the ‘arty’ toilet
not only received first place in the Museums and Galleries
category, but also gained a five star rating from the
judges.
The
toilet space, which is fully accessible, caught the judge’s
eye with its 450 glazed porcelain tiles and over 36 silk
screen prints used from a confection of diverse printed
sources, including the famous blue willow pattern and Thomas
Bewick foliage and insects.
Run
by the British Toilet Association, the awards aim to encourage
the highest possible standard in all types of ‘away from home’
or public toilets and, this year, attracted over 1548 entries.
Northern Print was up against the likes of Royal Armouries
Museum, Leeds and The Fan Museum in Greenwich in its category.
With best wishes for Christmas and
happy printing in 2010 from everyone at Northern Print
