The Food Chain (North East) CIC

Formed in 2004 with the aim of making affordable, high quality fresh fruit and vegetables available to communities of the North East, the Food Chain sells locally sourced produce to customers through over 150 community food projects and co-ops across the region. The Food Chain also offers a direct delivery service to workplaces in the region through its new campaign, 'Getting fresh in your workplace', which aims to promote health and well-being amongst employees while saving them the inconvenience of shopping.

In Business for Good - 'An enjoyable and thought provoking day'

The In Business for Good conference, held last week by the North East Social Enterprise Partnership and the Redcar and Cleveland Enterprise Team, proved a success amond attendants who described the event as 'an enjoyable and thought provoking day'. The day featured a number of well attended workshops, inspirational and motivating talks from social enterprises and keynote speakers including John Watson of Primrose Community Centre and Robert Ashton, 'The Barefoot Entrepreneur', and an electrifying performance from Sunderland Dance CIC.

Seminar: Understaning the Procurement Process and Identifying Opportunities

2 August 2010, 9:30am- 4:30pm, Morpeth Town Hall

The next seminar in the Big Lottery funded Procurement Training and Mentoring Programme will take place next week in Northumberland. The session, delivered by Community Ventures Ltd, will familiarise participants with the procurement process including tender documentation and the bidding process, providing attendants with the knowledge to bid with confidence. Attendants of a previous seminar rated the experience highly - 'plenty of useful, practical examples...worth attending', said one participant. Participants can also benefit from post-seminar on-to-one mentoring from Community Ventures.

National photography competition to capture business at its best

'Social Vision: business at its best' is looking for images that capture the unique, transformative work of social enterprises. Now in its third year, the national competition is now being jointly run by Triodos Bank and SEC, in association with Social Enterprise magazine and the North East Social Enterprise Partnership. The competition seeks images that show the passion, people and places using enterprise to drive positive change. Prizes include a cash prize of £750 and £1000 worth of advertising in Social Enterprise magazine.
