6. Making it_ Festival of Ideas

You might be thinking about starting or developing a business idea or maybe you’ve never thought about it at all until now…here’s your invitation to join others at a fun, practical event designed to unlock your creative potential. It could get you thinking for the first time about setting up your own business, or it could lead to new business ideas and new markets.

The Festival of Ideas is about bringing people like you together to explore the creative, commercial and collaborative potential in the things that raise your hackles. What’s on your mind? Maybe it’s the things you’d like to change in the world – a derelict play space, say, or the careless waste of energy as the globe heats up. Making it_ use creative thinking tools to make connections across social themes, opening the door to making the things that resonate with you happen and help you be commercially successful in the process.

The event takes place on Wednesday 10th March 5.30-8.30 at Newcastle Civic Centre, to reserve your place email info@makingit.eu.com

8. Register Your Event for London 2012 Open Weekend
Registrations for Open Weekend 2010 are now open – calling on sporting, arts and culture organisations to try something different or take their ideas to a new level.

Supported by BP, Open Weekend will run from 23-25 July 2010. Launched in 2008 with the start of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, more than a million people from around the UK have taken part in Open Weekend activities in the past two years.

This year will build on that success, with organisers creating a challenge for the public to be involved with. It could be creating an artwork in just 24 hours, a sporting-themed treasure hunt or a mass aerobics session.

Examples of challenges could be creating a new piece of art in 24 hours, with contributions from the public; hosting a back stage workshop; organising a sporting or cultural themed treasure hunt; opening up space for people to write, produce or perform their own compositions; or organising a mass aerobics session.

9. Sport England - Sportsmatch

Sport England’s Sportsmatch programme makes awards to not-for-profit organisations running projects at a community level which meet one or both of Sport England’s objectives of Grow or Sustain. This done through matching eligible sponsorship pound for pound, up to a maximum value of £100,000.

Sportsmatch supports formally constituted not-for-profit organisations and statutory bodies. This might include sports clubs, voluntary organisations, local authorities, schools, universities or national governing bodies of sport.

Projects can involve revenue and/or capital expenditure. There is no maximum capital project cost and all capital expenditure must be eligible i.e. only for equipment of a non-permanent nature. However the maximum capital grant which Sportsmatch can award is £25,000. They will not fund capital projects that involve construction, refurbishment or land improvement.

Before making an application, you should complete the pre-application checklist to help you decide if your organisation and project are eligible for a Sportsmatch award. It is also recommend that you read the Sportsmatch guidance document, and read the pages in this section which explain what Sportsmatch cannot fund and what makes a good application.

For more information or to download documents visit the Sport England website.
