Just as contemporary artists and arts organisations are broadening their vision and looking at wider societal issues, so is IETM as a network. This year we'll practice creativity and propose solutions to the crisis, finding new paradigms for political, environmental, social and - yes - cultural and artistic work. Join us in Berlin, Jakarta, Istanbul, Glasgow...

News from the Secretariat

Katalin Kezsmarki, our administrative assistant for 2009, finished her contract at IETM and we’re really grateful for all her work! Axel Satgé just took over at the IETM Secretariat, we’re very happy to welcome him.

IETM will be present at APAM and we have organised a discussion with our Australian members and friends of the network. This is an opportunity to present the new collaboration project between IETM and the Australia Council for the Arts.

Solidarity

Pakistani actor Alam Zeb had to flee his homeland because of serious political threats. He’s actually in transit with his family of 6, and needs financial and medical assistance, as well as an English-speaking country of exile.

IETM meetings

Spring Plenary Meeting in Berlin, 15 - 18 April 2010

IETM members are starting to get ready for the next Plenary Meeting, which will be a unique experiment for the network! The meeting will be very different from usual: no more working groups moderated by speakers briefed prior to the meeting. Instead, participants will propose topics of interest and organise their own working sessions.

This new format is designed to fit the theme of the meeting, "Searching for Plan C". Together, the participants will be thinking of a creative, common and crucial plan to invent new practices not only in the field of performing arts, but also in our daily lives. By rethinking our responsibility to the world, we hope to get a hold of some ingenious solutions for the current crises. The participants will also be able to set up their own artistic programme, through a selection of about 50 performances in the cultural venues of Berlin. If you want to join up the search for Plan C in Berlin, please contact the Secretariat of IETM! Introduction photo: IETM Plenary Meeting in Belgrade, 2005.

IETM Caravan in Palestine, 14 - 19 February 2010

12 IETM members, accompanied by the Secretariat, are currently traveling to Ramallah, Jerusalem and Bethlehem to meet local cultural operators, learn from their practices and invent new collaborations. Photo: Plenary Meeting in Vilnius, 2009.

Focus Points

Mobility

PRACTICS, the mobility project which IETM is a partner of, is looking for mobile cultural operators in Europe to write about their experiences and inspire their peers. More information on PRACTICS’ website.

Internal Affairs of IETM

Solidarity

IETM created an informal partnership with freeDimensional, FREEMUSE and SAR in order to inform the network and the broader arts sector of artists under political threat. IETM takes no political position but is pleased to help inform members about their peer colleagues facing difficult situations. You can read a first call for support in the new section "solidarity" on the left of this newsletter. Photo: Plenary Meeting in Vilnius, 2009.
