A new collaborative business model

Reading...

Here's some of what we've found to be inspiring, eye opening or down to earth useful.

Excited Atoms

One of our favourites - this looks at the possibilities for co-creation between performance artists and their audiences using digital technology. Amongst many challenges, it raises questions about co-production across many time zones - simply mind expanding.

Sustainable Ability

Commissioned by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and published by Mission Models Money, the report deals directly with the assumption that resource scarcity and climate change must be responded and adapted to by 2020 with speed. Some believe the arts have yet to hit their stride in terms of their power to imagine, lead and rehearse systemic change. 'More could be done if the creative industries joined up with some of the cutting edge practice that's being taken forward in some parts of the third sector'.

Can the Creative Industries Lead Us to a Sustainable Future?

Following this theme, this report has a great section of case studies including Julie’s Bicycle, IDEO, Think Act Vote, and the Sahara Forest Project; Creative Recycling, greengaged, the Ethical Fashion Forum, Greenfilm (sponsored by the UK Film Council), Nice and Serious, the Greener Festival, Green Theatre, Scenery Salvage, Kilter Beyond Theatre, earthscan, Fragile Earth, green4books, Myoo Create, Apps for Good, and Green-XML (launched by the Business Application Software Developers’ Association). Lots of ideas here.

Right here, right now: taking co-production into the mainstream

People’s needs are better met when they are involved in an equal and reciprocal relationship with professionals and others, working together to get things done. This is the underlying principle of co-production – a transformational approach to delivering services – whose time, the report says, has now come.

The Open Book of Social Innovation

'This book is about the many ways in which people are creating new and more effective answers to the biggest challenges of our times: how to cut our carbon footprint; how to keep people healthy; and how to end poverty'. Brilliant, big, deep. You might enjoy dipping in.

"If you bring the appropriate people together in constructive ways with good information, they will create authentic visions and strategies for addressing the shared concerns of the organisation or community" - David Crislip
